University of Tennessee Chattanooga web media students were recently given an exciting opportunity to build relationships with professionals from the community and to gain valuable insight into their chosen field of study with a visit from a team of web developers and designers from Medium (formerly Coptix Inc.), an industry leader in design and web technology.
On October 14th and 16th Josiah Roe, President, along with staff designers Melinda Taylor, Tyrick Christian, Bekka Reese and User Experience Manager Daniel Ryan, visited the UTC Campus to speak with the web media students. Josiah Roe stressed the importance of this collaboration, stating that, "The attention of the UTC Department of Art on website design and development is meeting a crucial need for our business. UTC is developing a program that's unique and industry-leading and it's exciting to be part of it!"
For several web media students pondering post-graduation plans, the Medium team showed students that not only is Chattanooga a great place to learn about web design, but it is also a great place to pursue their future careers. According to Medium User Experience Manager Daniel Ryan, "Working together with the university helps us create a pool of talented web designers and developers that our company needs as we grow and bolster the region's emerging reputation as a technology hub."
The lectures and demonstrations from the Medium team provided the Web Media students with practical knowledge regarding the web design industry. Presenting subjects ranging from the importance of time management to how to handle challenging clients, they gave students a glimpse of their future as designers and offered valuable insight into the business.
Matt Turnure, a design student at UTC, said regarding the visits, "I have known about Medium for some time now and have admired their work; so needless to say, I was looking forward to the two demonstrations/lectures... The talks were inspiring and eye-opening."
Daniel Ryan also expressed a similar sentiment regarding the UTC web media students, stating that, "This field changes so fast that learning truly is a career-long process." UTC web program lets me share my experience while gaining knowledge from the next generation of web developers; I am not just teaching, but I, too, am learning."
